Geologically Uig was created from fire and sculptured by ice,  still, the coastline is constantly changing.

This stunning landscape with white sandy beaches, rocky inlets, dramatic cliffs, and tiny islands will forever be at the mercy of the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

It has taken millennia to carve through the ancient Lewisian Gneiss. This unique rock is some of the oldest in the world and akin to moon rocks.  Formed under extreme temperature conditions where partial melting occurs in pre-existing rocks it metamorphosed into the beautifully banded migmatite which can be seen in the cliff faces and rocks around our islands.  A fascinating look into creation these stones are the often picked up, admired and collected by visitors and locals alike.
